Book write up
Sandworm
Sandworm by Andy Greenberg tells the story of one of the most dangerous and sophisticated cyberattacks in history. It focuses on a hacking group known as Sandworm, believed to be linked to the Russian government. The book covers attacks like the 2015 operation against Ukraine’s power grid and the 2017 NotPetya attack that caused billions of dollars in damage.
My impressions
What stood out to me most was the scale of the damage. The idea that cyberattacks can move beyond stolen data and start shutting down real world infrastructure really drives home how serious cyber warfare has become.
Another thing the book highlights well is how hard state sponsored attacks are to answer. Governments can be slow to respond, and political hesitation can make already dangerous attacks even harder to stop.
